Hi, I’m Jiyun.

I think it’s safe to say my life hasn’t been completely average. I left my loving parents and sisters in Korea to move to a rural town in Canada in my early teenage years, fell in love with and studied neuroscience into graduate school, moving cities for each degree (I moved to Alberta from coastal BC. Some would argue that alone is out of ordinary :P), while staying a make-up and fashion-loving girl who’s willing to spare 6 hours on dance team practices out of my 80-hour work weeks spent in a lab routinely committing neuron massacres in the name of science (Thank you, neurons, for your sacrifice). Now I find myself interested in topics that are uninteresting to many of my colleagues in the science community, with whom I like to converse in topics that are foreign to many of my non-scientist friends. I’m a little bit of a “girly-girl” who does science – sometimes in style.

Science is so cool! And the story of how we do science is extremely undertold (hint: it’s also sciencey and cool). I want to explore and share with you the wonders of life science and the awe-inspiring technologies scientists use to make those discoveries.

Being a girl is cool too! I’ve learned a thing or two about looking-better-quicker over the years of utilizing the 30-minute window between experiments to transform myself from a sleep-deprived lab rat into a done-up human being. Whether you are a workaholic, lazy, or just time-conscious, you’ll find some of these fast beauty tips useful.
